Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
HBOT
HBOT provides a non-invasive and natural path to healing by saturating your body with oxygen at a cellular level. Experience the transformative power of pressurized oxygen therapy.
Understanding HBOT
Oxygen at Pressure.
Healing at Depth.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that combines increased atmospheric pressure with high concentrations of oxygen to promote healing at the cellular level.
During a typical session, you enter a sealed chamber where pressure is raised to between 1.3 and 3.0 ATA, simulating the environment experienced underwater. While inside, you breathe nearly 100% oxygen. Under pressure, oxygen dissolves not only in red blood cells, but also directly into plasma, tissues, and cerebrospinal fluid.
100% Pure Oxygen
Breathe medical-grade oxygen in a pressurized environment for maximum absorption.
Enhanced Absorption
Oxygen dissolves directly into plasma, tissues, and cerebrospinal fluid.
12x More Oxygen
Delivers up to 12 times more oxygen than normal breathing at sea level.

HBOT has been studied and used in medicine for over 50 years, with proven benefits in wound care, neurology, sports recovery, and integrative medicine. All sessions are closely monitored by trained professionals using medical-grade equipment.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment-From Mechanisms to Cognitive Improvement
HBOT uses oxygen under higher-than-normal pressure and is proven for certain conditions (like carbon monoxide poisoning and hard-to-heal wounds). Newer research suggests it may also help brain recovery and cognition after stroke/brain trauma, likely by affecting cell signaling, mitochondria, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: Antimicrobial mechanisms and clinical application for infections.
HBOT is 100% oxygen under pressure used for infections; it may kill microbes via ROS, boost immune action, and enhance some antibiotics, especially in deep/chronic infections. With proper screening and monitoring, it’s considered generally safe.

The Effects of Hyperbaric Oxygenation on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Angiogenesis.
HBOT is already used for conditions like chronic non-healing wounds, late radiation injury, and carbon monoxide poisoning, and research suggests it could also be used as preconditioning before surgery to potentially lower complications and shorten hospital stays. In human studies, HBOT causes a brief oxidative stress “signal” that’s linked to reduced inflammatory markers and increased pro-angiogenesis factors, though some effects appear mainly after the first session or only briefly after each session.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for traumatic brain injury and/or post-traumatic stress disorder.
This VA evidence review on HBOT for veterans with TBI/PTSD says the research is controversial: uncontrolled studies and an unblinded trial suggest benefit, but well-controlled, blinded sham RCTs (using mild-pressure air) generally don’t confirm it. Because supporters argue the “sham” may be active, the report concludes the true effect is still unclear and controversially calls HBOT “reasonable” only after other options fail.

Frequently Asked Questions
Explore our Resource Center for helpful information. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact our patient care team for assistance.
What will I feel inside the hyperbaric chamber?
During an HBOT session, you will sit or lie comfortably inside the pressurized chamber while breathing 100% medical-grade oxygen. As the chamber pressurizes, you may feel a sensation of fullness in your ears, much like during takeoff or landing on an airplane. This is normal and can be relieved by swallowing, yawning, or gently pinching your nose and exhaling. Once at full pressure, most patients relax, read, listen to music, or even nap. The experience is generally painless, and our team is always monitoring you to ensure comfort and safety.
How should I prepare for a HBOT therapy session?
Preparation is simple but important. We recommend eating a light meal one to two hours before your session and drinking water to stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol and smoking before and during the course of treatments, as these can reduce oxygen delivery. Some medications may interact with HBOT, so it’s essential to provide your medical team with a complete list of prescriptions and supplements. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is ideal, and you’ll be asked to remove items such as jewelry, lighters, or electronic devices for safety reasons.
What if I’m claustrophobic?
Claustrophobia is a common concern, but most patients tolerate HBOT very well once they begin. Our chambers are designed to feel spacious and are equipped with clear viewing panels and communication systems, so you can always see and speak with the staff outside. Many patients find that listening to calming music, practicing slow breathing, or simply focusing on the ability to pause or stop the session at any time helps them feel at ease. Our team is trained to support you and will guide you through the process step by step.
Can I fly before or after hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
It is generally recommended to wait at least 24 hours after a hyperbaric oxygen session before flying. This allows your body to fully adjust to the pressure changes and helps prevent any discomfort or complications. The same applies if you have recently flown; waiting a day before beginning HBOT is ideal. These precautions are similar to those advised for scuba diving, as both involve changes in atmospheric pressure that affect the body.
How long does a HBOT therapy session last?
Most HBOT sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the treatment protocol prescribed for your condition. During this time, the chamber is gradually pressurized, maintained at therapeutic levels, and then slowly depressurized at the end of the session. The number of sessions required varies by condition, some protocols involve daily treatments over several weeks, while others may call for a shorter series. Your medical team will design a schedule that best suits your health needs.
