Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Therapy

Renewal from the Inside Out

A physician-supervised regenerative approach using biologically young, immune-privileged mesenchymal stem cells, sourced from umbilical cord tissue, tested, and administered within OmniStem’s own GMP-aligned laboratory in the Dominican Republic.

About the therapy

What Are
UC-MSC Stem Cells?

UC-MSC stands for umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells — cells taken from Wharton’s Jelly, the soft tissue inside a donated umbilical cord. These are umbilical cord stem cells collected after healthy births, through a process that poses no risk to mother or child. Because they come from a donor rather than the patient, they’re known as allogeneic stem cells, a distinction that matters, and one we explain in more detail below.

In simple terms: these cells act like messengers. Once introduced into the body, Wharton’s jelly stem cells don’t replace damaged tissue directly. Instead, they release biological signals that may help calm inflammation, support immune balance, and encourage the body’s own repair processes across multiple systems.

This is different from a stem cell transplantation procedure used for blood cancers, where cells from a donor are used to rebuild a patient’s blood and immune system after chemotherapy, that’s a distinct medical procedure with a different purpose. UC-MSC therapy at OmniStem doesn’t replace or rebuild an organ system; it supports the body’s own recalibration, gradually, over time.

Because the goal is to support natural repair rather than deliver immediate relief, results tend to build gradually — full therapeutic effect may take six to twelve months.

Why Umbilical
Cord Tissue?

Not all mesenchymal stem cells are the same. Where they come from changes how the cells behave, their age, how actively they multiply, and how the immune system responds to them. Compared with bone marrow or fat-derived alternatives, umbilical cord stem cell therapy starts from younger, more biologically active cells.

Cross-section Umbilical Cord

Biological age

Biologically Young

Derived from neonatal tissue, these cells carry fewer replicative cycles than adult-derived alternatives, preserving regenerative potency.

Immunological profile

Immune-Privileged
As allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells, UC-MSCs express low levels of MHC-II antigens, reducing the likelihood of rejection by the immune system and making them suitable for allogeneic application.

Clinical standards

Certified & Traceable

Ethically sourced from screened donors, expanded under controlled conditions, and released only after sterility, identity, and viability certification.

How UC-MSC
Therapy Works

A structured biological modulation process. Each step is supervised by a physician from intake through follow-up.

i.

Intravenous Delivery

UC-MSCs are administered intravenously, allowing cells to circulate systemically and migrate toward sites of active inflammatory signaling.

ii.

Biochemical Signaling
Cells respond to inflammatory markers by releasing cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles that may modulate immune responses and encourage tissue repair.

iii.

Gradual Recalibration

Regenerative responses develop over weeks to months. The protocol supports natural biological processes,  not substitutes for them.

How UC-MSC Differs from Cord Blood Banking

Patients sometimes ask how this compares to cord blood banks, which store umbilical cord blood at birth for potential future use by the same child or family. That’s a different tissue and a different purpose: cord blood banking preserves blood-forming stem cells for possible future treatment of the same individual (or a matched relative), typically for blood-related conditions.
UC-MSC therapy uses Wharton’s jelly, the connective tissue of the cord, not the blood within it, sourced from separate, consented donors specifically for mesenchymal stem cell therapy, tested and prepared for allogeneic (third-party) clinical use rather than stored for a single family’s future use.

A Multi Dimensional Approach

In selected patients, UC-MSC therapy may support recovery and wellness across several dimensions simultaneously. Individual results vary.

Why Patients Travel to Our Stem Cell Clinic in the Dominican Republic?

Stem Cell Clinic in the Dominican Republic

UC-MSC therapy of this kind is not currently available through clinics in the United States. That has led a growing number of patients to consider stem cell therapy abroad, traveling to a licensed, government-regulated facility rather than relying on domestic clinics offering diluted or off-label alternatives that may not be genuine allogeneic stem cell therapy at all.

OmniStem operates its own stem cell clinic in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — approximately 90 minutes by air from Miami, with direct flights available from major Eastern US cities including New York, Washington DC, and Chicago. Every cell administered is sourced, tested, and prepared within OmniStem’s own GMP-aligned laboratory, with full donor-to-patient traceability.

Frequently asked

Common Questions

At OmniStem, we specialize in the use of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs), adult stem cells found in Wharton's jelly of the umbilical cord. They can differentiate into bone, cartilage, and fat cells. Because of these properties, they are widely studied for their potential in regenerative medicine.

Stem cells are living cells that can replicate and differentiate. Exosomes are tiny, non-living vesicles released by cells; they carry proteins and RNA that can influence cell signaling. Exosomes do not replicate or replace tissue; they deliver signals that may help regulate repair processes.

Procedures typically take about 1 hour with practically no downtime. Considering that a patient care plan may involve multiple procedures, the onboarding, treatment, and medical supervision process can take up to 4 days.

Some patients notice changes within weeks, while others require several months. Full therapeutic effects may take 6–12 months. The goal is to support natural repair processes rather than provide immediate relief.

There is no fixed upper age limit. Eligibility is based on overall health and medical evaluation, not chronological age.

Yes, but only under medical supervision. Certain medications, such as anti-inflammatory or steroid drugs, must be paused before and after treatment to avoid interference.

No. Bone marrow and cord blood stem cell transplants are typically used to treat blood cancers and blood disorders, rebuilding a patient's blood and immune system, often after chemotherapy. UC-MSC therapy uses a different cell type — mesenchymal stem cells from umbilical cord tissue — administered for their anti-inflammatory and tissue-repair signaling properties, not to replace blood-forming cells. The two are related in name only; a physician evaluation can clarify which category, if any, applies to your situation.
